Accommodation

Accommodation, Balaton, VacationHungary is one of the most beautiful countries for a vacation. Climate, nice people, quite and warm water of Lake Balaton, hot spring located all over the country, attractive and bright capital of the country – Budapest, local wine and excellent Hungarian cuisine – all of these speaks for itself. But that is not all that Hungary can offer!

You can stay in the hotel, boarding house, vacation house or in holiday cottage, the choice of which at Balaton is especially huge. Many small towns surround the lake, and in every town summer cottages stand in 3-4 lines all the way to the shore.

The environs of Lake Balaton are rich in small towns with sights. The most famous of them are Siofok, Szantod, Tihany, Tapolca, Zalakaros and Heviz.

Siofok, as the biggest city on the south coast, is at the same time the major port on Lake Balaton. Modern hotels, located right on the lake shore are especially popular in Siofok.

Szantod is a ferry harbour on the south coast. A ferry connects north and south shores in the narrowest place of the lake. Tihany Peninsula provides this crossing. A steep road leads from the pier to Benedictine monastery built in 1055. At the very top there is a church, built in Baroque style. It opens a unique view of the lake. Another notable place is an open-air museum with old Hungarian peasant houses and a pottery of XVIII century.

You may get acquainted with Tapolca town because of 4 kilometer lake cave. This underground lake can be crossed by rowing-boat, but the shipping part of this lake – is only a small fraction of the vast immense karst system.

Many other places of attraction are waiting for you at Lake Balaton. Hungary is worth visiting and the best way is to assure this yourself.
