Beach and water sports on Lake Balaton

Wesselényi Beach is the largest beach in Balatonalmádi. Water sports equipment is available at Wesselényi Beach. Wesselényi Beach is 500 metres away on foot from the bus station and approximately 400 metres from the railway station. When planning a day on the shores of Lake Balaton, time spent by the water, water sports and two specific arrival points should be considered separately. Óvári kilátó and Óvári Messzelátó

The Óvári kilátó was built in the 1900s from local red sandstone on Balatonalmádi’s former vineyard hill and took on its present form in 2004. In clear weather, the Óvári kilátó offers panoramic views of Balatonalmádi and its surroundings. The former vineyard hill and local red sandstone provide the structure with a clearly identifiable historical and material context. The Óvári Messzelátó was renovated in 2004.

The Vörös Homokkő tanösvény

The 6-kilometre-long Vörös Homokkő tanösvény introduces Balatonalmádi and its natural assets. The Vörös Homokkő tanösvény begins at the Pannonia Aqua statue, which symbolises Lake Balaton. The trail therefore provides a defined scope and a clearly described starting point for planning a day. At the beginning, Pannonia Aqua establishes the symbolic connection to Lake Balaton, while Balatonalmádi and its natural assets are the explicitly stated subject of the educational trail. For walks with a clear connection to the area, the trail can be noted as a distinct landscape focus.

Leánykökörcsines legelő

The Leánykökörcsines legelő area was placed under protection in autumn 2015. Nearly 120 plant species grow in the Leánykökörcsines legelő area, including 20 protected species. This gives the nature theme its own name and a specific scale. Those who take plants and protected areas into account when planning their trip can note Leánykökörcsines legelő as an independent focus alongside Balatonalmádi’s water- and culture-related destinations.

Churches and earlier local history

During the restoration of the Vörösberény Reformed Church from 1966 to 1968, the medieval windows were made visible again. According to the excavation findings, the fortified Reformed church “Erődített Református Templom” already existed in the 11th–12th centuries. The two historical sites represent different chronological focuses in Balatonalmádi: through its restoration, the Vörösberény Reformed Church reflects the treatment of medieval building elements, while the fortified Reformed church indicates an existence dating back to the 11th–12th centuries. For cultural day plans, the church interior, fortification and earlier local history can be addressed as separate themes. Whether your day begins by the water, with a view, on foot, among the plants or with earlier architectural history remains a matter of personal pace.
