Shallow bay at Központi strand

At Központi strand in Balatonszárszó, there is a shallow natural bay with a preserved sandy section of shoreline. The water basin at Központi strand gradually and slowly becomes deeper. For a stay by the lake, the shape of the shoreline and the way the water deepens are therefore two clearly recognizable features of this place.

Literature and exhibitions in Balatonszárszó

The József Attila Emlékház is open all year round and presents an interactive exhibition. The József Attila Emlékház is located in the former Horváth Inn, where Attila József spent his final weeks in November and December 1937. Since 1957, the building of the József Attila Emlékház has housed an exhibition about the poet’s life.

Events and remembrance

Opened in 2011, the Csukás Színház presents performances for families, children and adults, as well as concerts. Since 2020, the Csukás Színház in Balatonszárszó has been a venue for the Kultkikötő programme series. Cultural days can therefore include performances and concerts as different occasions at the Csukás Színház.

Next to the main entrance of the Balatonszárszói Reformed Church, there is a memorial plaque commemorating the 1943 Szárszó Conference.

Cycling in Balatonszárszó

As part of the development of the Balatoni Bringakör, an open bicycle lane was created on Jókai Mór utca. Road markings, as well as traffic-supporting information signs and KRESZ signs, were installed on Mikszáth Kálmán utca. A bicycle rest area was also established along Jókai Mór utca as part of the development of the Balatoni Bringakör. For orientation when cycling, two streets can therefore be clearly distinguished: Jókai Mór utca is associated with the bicycle lane and bicycle rest area, while Mikszáth Kálmán utca is associated with road markings and information and KRESZ signs.

Csúcs-hegy mountain is located in the vicinity of Balatonszárszó. Alma-hegy hill and Öreg-hegy hill are located in the immediate vicinity of Balatonszárszó. In the wider regional surroundings of Balatonszárszó are Nagy-Gella mountain, the ruins of the Pálos monastery and the ruins of Szigliget Castle. The landscape destinations thus range from the surroundings and immediate vicinity to the wider regional area.
