Balaton Guide

Lake Balaton is located in the western Hungary, 160 kilometers away from the international airport of Budapest. Balaton is the largest lake in the central Europe. It has an area of 79 kilometers, its width is 12 kilometers. Lake Balaton is a popular place for vacation, especially for the whole family. Not only charming landscape attracts local and foreign tourists, but also a variety of flora and fauna, numerous mountains and castles, and, of course, good wine, which can be enjoyed throughout Hungary.

One of the wine places can be considered the district of Badaskoni city on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, which is known primarily for its vineyards. You can enjoy the local wine in any of the numerous bars, where well-cooked fresh fish is also served. A small depth of the lake, which is about 3-4 meters, guarantees a pleasant temperature for swimming in the summer months, up to 27 degrees. Almost all the water sports can be performed at Balaton, and on the numerous banks, especially in the southern part of the lake, it is possible to go into the water for hundreds of meters!

Tihan Peninsula, which is located on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, is the birthplace of many birds, among which rare ones can be found. The entire peninsula is an environmental zone.
The other interesting places are hidden in rocks monastic cells. There is also a monastery built in Baroque style. A view of the Balaton from this particular location is wonderful. During your vacation on the lake you will receive evidence that nature and culture are perfectly intertwined.

In the meanwhile, a network of bicycle paths was built with the total length of more than 200 kilometers. This network goes by the town of Heviz, the largest thermal lake in the Europe and further extends to medieval Shumeg Mountain, where festivals in the castles take place in the summer.

Tourist infrastructure is well-developed at Balaton, regardless of whether it is all about a hotel, a holiday house or a summer cottage – you will be always able to find the most suitable and comfortable for you type of type of accommodation.
