On August 20, 2008 in the town Nyuirbator in the eastern Hungary, Minister of National Development and Minister of Finance of Hungary signed a document which describes the development of the priority project entitled "Faith & Health - Joint Initiative of Máriapócs and Nyírbátor". The project aims to revive religious tourism in these two towns, as well as to save cultural, architectural and historical heritage of Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg County in the eastern Hungary.

Though there are currently numerous historical monuments and sites in Nyuirbator and Máriapócs, unfortunately all of them are in extremely poor condition. At the same time an appropriate infrastructure is not organized. The number of tourist in these towns had so decreased, that they have started losing their status of religious sites. Thus, with a view for tourist flow increasing and the revival of interest to historical values, which in turn will indirectly affect the economy and attract new investment in the region, this project was conceived.

According to the project, the following will be done by 2010:

- Reconstruction and development of Máriapócs basilica;
- Reconstruction of the Protestant Church in Nyírbátor;
- Reconstruction of the Roman Catholic Church in Nyírbátor;
- Construction of the thermal baths and a swimming pool in Nyírbátor;
- Organization of tours to Báthori estate;
- Organization and construction of the town historical trail in Nyírbátor, which will link historical sites along the entire road, 450 meters long.
