Siofok is the biggest settlement on the southern shore of Lake Balaton with a population of about 24 000 people. This town is considered to be the capital of Balaton. It got its name due to the Sio River, which divides this resort town into two parts.

Along the coastline, which is 15 kilometers long, numerous cafes, bars, restaurants and night clubs are located. Night life lovers and those, who after active daytime recreation still have energy and desire to get acquainted with the night life of the resort, are invited to visit the most popular entertainment complexes <<Palace>> and <<Coca Cola Beach House>>. <<Palace>> is one of the most famous night clubs throughout Hungary. The most famous DJs from Germany, Holland and England play their sets at 3 dance floors of this club. In addition, <<Palace>> offers its visitors a cocktail bar and a strip bar, and also a restaurant with a garden, where you can romantically round of the evening in this charming town with a wonderful view of Lake Balaton.

Siofok is rich in attractions, for example there is an Evangelical Church in the town, which shape is very similar to turned over wooden ship, and this church is located in no less beautiful place – Oulu Park.

Siofok is the biggest harbor of Lake Balaton. Siofok port is the largest shipping hub on the lake, and from its docks cruise and pleasure boats depart regularly. Meteorological station, which monitors the weather conditions across the lake, is located on the west pier.

Freedom Square – is the central square of the town, and in the heart of it there is water tower, built in 1912. This tower is the highest building in the town – its height is about 50 meters. The Main Square is situated near Freedom Square, and over there you will have a chance to see an exhibition of works of Hungarian sculptor, designer and artist Imre Varga. Tourists are also invited to visit the Museum of Imre Kalman, devoted to the life and work of a famous composer, born in Siofok.

Siofok, as a tourist center, began to develop rapidly after World War II and gradually evolved into the biggest resort town on Lake Balaton. Numerous green spaces, parks and flower compositions make the city especially beautiful. Every year during the first week of July International Folk Festival <<Golden Shell>> takes place, besides that you can always go to the organ concert, the ballet, opera or visit international and regional sport competitions and tournaments. And for those seeking for an alternative to the recreation on the shore, Siofok offers to rent a bicycle and see its surroundings themselves.
