Lake Balaton is situated in western Hungary. There are numerous beautiful vacation areas in this region, and one of them is surely the small town Balatonboglar. It is situated on the southern shore of almost 80 km-long lake and can fascinated in various ways both families with small children as well as sailors and passionate nature lovers.
The Platanstrand is about as big as ten football field and it is the largest beach on the whole lake. Beach gradually leads you into the water, and due to the small depth in this part of the lake water warms quickly in summer and that makes recreation on this beach particularly pleasant. Vacationers are invited to play volleyball, use trampolines and rent pedal boats – there is a wide array of entertainments and everyone can find what he/she wants.

A big event takes place in Balatonboglar in July every year – amateur swimmers compete to cross the Lake Balaton. It is a 5,2 kilometer route between Balatonboglar and Revfulop on the north shore of Balaton.
Another major event here is Boglar Wine Festival – one of largest of this kind in the entire country. Since 1987 Balatonboglar is considered to be an "international city of grape and wine" – there are 3500 hectares of vineyards at the gates of the city. In addition to a market, where famous wine and other specialties of the region are sold, visitors should expect huge entertainment program with the firework show and a colorful procession through Boglar streets.
Other attractions, which are ideal for a rainy day excursions is Red and Blue Chapels. Both churches – one Protestant, another Catholic - were built in the 19th century and now are home for rotating exhibitions.
Those, who prefer hiking, Balatonboglar invites to a nature reserve, where a small with a spherical observation tower is located. Breathtaking view of Lake Balaton at night is guaranteed.
