Nagyrada: Water World, Hills and Wine

Nagyrada has a varied landscape with a water world and surrounding hills. For visitors, this gives the village two distinct landscape settings: water and higher-lying areas are both part of Nagyrada’s surroundings. This is a good starting point when a destination is to be understood not only through a single attraction, but also through its geographical surroundings. Between natural landscapes, historical traces and regional excursion destinations, a broad yet clear framework emerges for exploring Nagyrada.

Water Landscape and Pogányvár

Pogányvár is a particularly significant historical reference. Pogányvár is considered a circular fortified site surrounded by a ditch and an embankment. The archaeological remains include the foundation of a wooden structure. The Nagyrada-Pogányvár archaeological site was located on a small island amid the marshes of the Zala. The structural remains and the former island location give the historic site two clearly distinguishable aspects. The fortification points to the site’s architectural structure, while its location on the small island describes the landscape surrounding the site.

Hills and Panoramic Views

The hills around Nagyrada are also present in the local landscape. Simon-hegy is located in the area near Nagyrada. Öröm-hegy, János-hegy and Egri-hegy are located in the surrounding area of Nagyrada. Panoramic views from the local hills are part of the visitor experience in Nagyrada. The elevations provide concrete reference points in the landscape, while the views direct the gaze across the surroundings. The municipality of Nagyrada is located near Zalakaros. Lake Balaton, as well as Hévíz and Keszthely, are no more than 25 km from the municipality. Nagyrada remains the specific point of reference, while Zalakaros, Lake Balaton, Hévíz and Keszthely form the regional framework.
