It is believed that Balatonszemes belongs to previous centuries. It is as if time has never passed. And indeed a trip to Balatonszemes is a journey into long past.

Balatonszemes is located on the south shore of Lake Balaton. Situated on the hillside, the town opens its heart to transparent water. Trees share their shadows with magnificent old villas, giving a romantic appearance to the center of the city. Almost every apartment, house and villa in the town has a view of Lake Balaton. Despite the so-called residential district, Balatonszemes has the charm of a Hungarian village.

It is amazing that Balatonszemes appeared as a bathing resort in 1880, while other resort of the regions were put to use in the in the twenties and thirties of the 20th century. Even today Balatonszemes is popular among the tourists. Various art exhibitions and classical music concerts take place every summer in Balatonszemes.

There are some historical monuments and tourists attractions in Balatonszemes. Among the other attractions Roman Catholic Church and a Romanesque building with a tower with spiral staircase should be mentioned. Even the small elementary school is admirable – it once was the palace of Hunady count. Postal Museum pays tribute to the arduous work of postmen. In the exhibition you will be able to see old post horse-drawn carriages and the appearance of post station from the 18th century. With respect and honor the birthplace of the Hungarian graphic artist Károly, who illustrated a huge number of children and youth books, was transformed into a small fairytale kingdom.

The population of the town is about 1800 citizens, but its port has enough space for more than 130 sailboats. Two wharfs embrace the entrance of the harbor for hundred years already.
